Love الحبْ, like friendship الصداقة in Arabic, has many levels, and based on each level, Arabic has a specific term for that level. These terms are more commonly found in poetry, songs, and Sufism terminology. However, some of these terms are also used in daily Arabic dialogue, even though not many Arabic speakers pay attention to the differences between these levels.     Passionate love: Described as the skin of the heart, similar to wholehearted love.
  • 💧 4. صبابة (Sabāba)

    Strong love: The term implies spilling one’s emotions onto someone, symbolizing deep faithfulness in love.
  • 🌹 5. عشق (‘Ishq)

    Extreme love: Represents a quality of being inseparable from the beloved.
  • 🔥 6. ولعْ (Walā’)

    Obsessive love: Indicates a psychological state resembling the catch of a pathogenic skin dislocation.
  • 🤍 7. غرامْ (Gharām)

    Fondness: Describes the worry of indebtedness, always preoccupied by loving someone.
  • 🐪 8. هُيامْ (Huyam)

    Intense love: Compared to a camel’s thirstiness, symbolizing an extreme feeling of longing.
  • 🌀 9. تيْم (Taym)

    Extreme love: Likened to losing one’s mind as if lost in the desert.
  • 💔 10. وَلهْ (Walah)

    Lost in love: A psychological state resembling losing something, like one’s mind.
  • 🔥 11. جوى (Jawā)

    Burning love: A psychological state compared to feeling a stomach ache.
  • 🔥 12. فتنة (Fitna)

    Burning love: Describes a psychological process similar to how gold is smelted in the furnace.
  • 🌙 13. توقْ (Tawq)

    Longing love: Fighting one’s psyche for the beloved, even to the extent of sacrifice.
